Top Home Interior Trends to Try This Fall (2020)

If you’re into keeping up with the latest home interior trends, then the looks for this fall are a few to keep your eye on. You’ll also enjoy the fact that many of these styles can stick around far beyond the upcoming season and mesh well with any future changes you may want to make.

Top Home Interior Trends to Try This Fall

Earth Tone Colors

Whether you are looking to update paint, furniture, or wall decor, earth tones are on this season’s radar. These tones have a great way of bringing in a touch of the outdoors while keeping a warm touch to the room. Although there are a variety of earth tone colors, the following are the go-to choices:

  • Muted Oyster White
  • Yellow Gold
  • Olive Green
  • Mahogany Brown
  • Rusty Red
  • Deep Forest Green
  • Deep Salmon
  • Dusty Turquoise

Spaces with Multiple Uses

In past trends it was ideal to have a separate space for each individual use. Think kitchen for cooking and dining room for eating or living room for looks and a den for entertaining. However, a new trend rising this year is creating a space with multiple uses.

The most ideal spaces for families today are using kitchens as the place to cook and eat while combining the use of a living area for all things living and entertaining. With working from home on the rise, it’s also a smart idea to use a space in the living room, bedroom, or spare room to create an office nook.

If you have children, don’t hesitate to combine their bedroom and playroom into one. Not only does this utilize space but it also keeps like-minded things in one area (no more stepping on Legos in the hallway!).

Add a Touch of Nature

As if fall wasn’t already the perfect time to incorporate this upgrade in your home, adding a touch of nature is said to offer a calming effect to the environment. Don’t worry if you don’t have a green thumb to bring in some real shrubs. Opt in for adding faux greenery with a touch of nature-themed decor such as canvas paintings or leaf-printed throw pillows.

Tweaked Lighting

With the right kind of lighting, you can create just about any look you want. Since fall is more of a low-light pitch kind of season, opting in for lower watts and more candles can help create a more relaxed feel. In addition to tweaking your lighting this year, also trending is layered lighting. Easily accomplish this with candles, lamps, or adding lighting on the wall and not using your overhead lights as much.

Bring Back the Wicker & Rattan

You may think back to your grandmother’s old wicker porch furniture that seemed to stand the test of time (meaning years), and that style is making its comeback. Making it debut as dining room chairs, bar stools, and even wall mirror borders, rattan and wicker keeps in line with offering a warm look with a slight boho twist.

Instead of switching out all of your furniture, opt in for a wicker sitting chair or a rattan ottoman. You’ll add the perfect touch of earthy style that’s both cute and organic.

The best part about each of these trends is their ability to be versatile with almost any other style. You can easily incorporate one piece and change the entire look of one room. Also remember to check your local antique shops and thrift stores. They often have some “old fashioned” goodies that would be a jackpot for today’s trends. Start by choosing one thing to change at a time until you’re fully happy with your trendy home interior update!
